Making your home a vessel of perfect harmony begins with ancient principles of design and architecture. Referred to as Indian Feng Shui or Vastu Shastra, the way that a home is built and the arrangement of its furnishings plays a major role in how your life plays out. You may think that the rearrangement of furniture is nothing more than creating a change in appearance, but direction of objects can prove significant in the overall flow and interaction of the emotions of all family members.

Construction Narratives

The south and west corners of a newly constructed home should not be for an aesthetic view of the outdoors, but for the harmonious environment inside. It is critical for the master bedroom to be located in the southwest location of the house. Other rooms should be appropriately placed in the central, southern and central west parts of the building. These have been the guidelines since ancient Chinese times where Feng Shui has a strict association with living as one with nature.

The Placement of Objects

Vastu means a dwelling place where the art of placing objects and elements creates a harmonious environment. Feng Shui translates to wind-water in English and is a Chinese philosophical system of harmonizing everyone with the surrounding environment. Every object in the home has a specific reason for placement in order to create a positive energy. For example, beds should be placed so the feet are always pointing north. It is believed that any other direction will prompt nightmares and interrupted sleep.

Why Southwest Corners are Important in Rooms

Southwest corners are considered an earth corner of the female resident. Have you ever heard that when mom is unhappy, the whole family is miserable? This is the location where marriage energy is most abundant. By strengthening this area with lamps, pictures or plants, the nurturing and instinctive emotions of the female are most prevalent.

If you are moving to an existing house, plan wisely to objects where they can interact with and influence your personal energy flow. There are many rules to learn and remember, but when looking at the principles of Feng Shui, they make sense. Each room has specific rules for keeping the home in harmony, dependent on location. It may not be possible to move a master bedroom to the southwest part of the home, but the proper placement of objects can help to bring harmony to the space.

Follow the guidelines of Indian Feng Shui or Vastu Shastra and feel the difference in the physical and emotional aura within your family.
